The Queen is a vital piece in chess. It's hard to capture, but once the Queen has fallen, a player finds himself in a dangerous position. To represent this, I wanted to expose the Queen's heart in such a way that it seems like it's balancing on two sticks - precarious but stable.

I researched the look of the king chess piece. Many chess pieces typically have a cross on their top. Hence, I have decided to place a cross atop my king piece as well. This cross, however, has been designed out of the contour of the base.

Fallen king means the end of the game. The king piece is very vulnerable. To represent that, the king's heart is suspended in the air; one stick coming from the top, and another attached to the back.
